Lately, I've decided to come back to my Star Wars project and I'm getting into it. Let me sum things up.

Out of the Wilderness, a group of Jedi (and their families) come in 12 ABY.
After watching the Jedi Order and the Republic, the Jedi are disillustioned and question the old ways.
The Jedi are light side, but they have come to believe the Empire is better than the Republic.
Coincidently, Daala and Pellaeon are making their move to stabilize the Empire.
The Jedi hook up with Daala and Pellaeon and their leader installs himself as Emperor.

I've been working on variations of this premise for awhile now. It really didn't focus on Jedi being the saviors of the Empire until I started reading the Legacy comics. The Force-sensitive Fel Dynasty and the Imperial Knights really blew me away as concepts and really fit in with other ideas I'd been tossing around.

America is safe!

That is a huge blow to Obama and his agenda, as Democrats now have to consider unpopular bills for ObamaCare and cap-and-trade in an entirely new light. If they fall in behind Obama instead of listening to their constituents, they will find themselves in retirement after the 2010 midterms. That’s the big lesson, and it will not be lost on moderate Democrats.

Like many, I had high hopes for Obama when he came into office. I voted for the other guy. I didn't think Obama had much experience, if any. But I hoped he might be able to grow into the job. Unfortunately, I don't think thats happened.

More importantly, and more scary for me, is the sudden swing to the Left in Washington this year. Following the heath care reform debate, I've been scared at the notion that the present leadership would be able to slip something through. But now, I think America is safe. Unless the present leadership wants to try some kind of scorched earth suicide mission, I think we're safe.

Remember this from a week ago? CNN reports there have been more arrests.

I can only hope that the more people who come under the microscope, the more information will be revealed to the police. Police believe as many as ten people participated in the rape over a span of two hours. Until new information is revealed by the police, this seems like such a casual crime, at least for those who participated later. Again, I have to wonder if this episode would have happened to the extent it did, if at all, had those barbarians had it in the back of their minds that what they were doing could be punished with death.

Joker Squad

Even though I should be, I'm not really tempted to buy Joker Squad.

You may know Joker Squad from the Star Wars: Legacy comic book series. I loved the Jokers in the comics. But looking at those figures, they don't really inspire me. I suppose its because the joints for articulation add mass and bulk to the figure. And that big cannon looks dumb. I will admit, Joker Squad would look pretty cool next to my existing Stormtrooper squads.

Perhaps sooner or later I'll decide to spend some bucks on Joker Squad. But I'll probably need to see more of them in the comics first, to get me excited about them.

Even Bill Clinton, the most charismatic politician I'll probably ever see in my lifetime, had a solid record of public service before he was elected.

I missed week 5 and week 6 of Dancing with the Stars. The highlight of this season for me was Chelsie Hightower. Unfortunately she and her celebrity partner Louie Vito were eliminated last week after a dance off.

Besides Chelsie being both hot and adorable, she and Louie made a cute couple and had chemistry. With both Louie & Chelsie and Melissa & Mark, another pair I was cheering for, Donnie & Kym are next in line as my favorite pair to win this season.

Despite some occasional drunken evidence to the contrary I’m not into fat chicks, even if they are what the chubby chasers call BBW’s (big beautiful women), so these pictures of Mariah Carey dressed as an angel for halloween aren’t doing anything for me. It’s a good effort, with the lingerie and all, but this is one angel that would fall from heaven at an insanely high velocity. Look out below. At least her boobs look good.

If Hollywood Tuna thinks Mariah Carey is a BBW in that picture, they must have insanely high standards for their women. I loath to think what their ideal woman looks like. I wonder if they could ever be truly happy in a relationship with anything less than a supermodel. I feel sorry for them.

Hawkeyes - Week 10

You know what? I wouldn't mind Iowa not getting to the national championship just so the Hawkeyes can plays Oregon in the Rose Bowl.

Check out this week's rankings. As I type this, the BCS rankings haven't come out yet. But I'm surprised to see Iowa is actually ranked higher in the Coaches' poll than in the AP poll. I seem to recall the Coaches not giving Iowa much love at all this season. Thank goodness USC showed its true colors. Enough of them holding Iowa back. Whoa, looking back at last week's Coaches' poll, the Hawks even moved up from #8 to #6. Awesome.

In the real world, I suppose its a good idea that START I gets replaced with something. Vis a vis Russia, less nukes are good nukes. But, what about my Superpower fantasy scenario?

I've already got my United States withdrawn from the ABM Treaty and weapon satellites in orbit. And I believe that caused START II to never get ratified back in the 90s. So what about letting START I pass on without a replacement? That would certainly open up new avenues to explore in the fantasy scenario. But does it make sense for my fantasy policy makers in the Taylor Administration?

Sequel Trilogy

If you haven't already, I recommend you read the article at Wookieepedia on the sequels planned for after Return of the Jedi. It really clarifies and confirms what I had known and suspected changes made between somewhere during the making of The Empire Strikes Back, but before Return of the Jedi.

Of course, I'm mainly referring to Leia and Luke not being twin brother and sister up until some point during the making of The Empire Strikes Back. There is this production photo of Leia and Luke in a romantic embrace. There is the info about the scenes in the med center where Leia and Luke are on the verge of revealing their mutual feelings. There is the whole illogic of Yoda and Obi-Wan allowing Luke to run off to rescue Han and Leia if Leia is indeed the "other" Yoda refers to, persumably Luke's twin sister.

Iowa beat Indiana just a few moments ago. Considering Iowa's record this season, I didn't bother to watch most of the game. If Iowa was going to win the game, they would have been ahead when I started watching or would have come back to win the game after I started watching. They were ahead, having come back before I started watching. So it was all good.

It looks like Iowa and Indiana played an entertaining game. But my attention is on the Big 12 today, the Texas - Oklahoma State game. Iowa needs Texas to lose a game if we're going to get to the #3 spot, to be in position to play the winner of the SEC!

Lost in Space

The movie "Lost in Space" is truly lost in space. It has many things going for it. But the movie can't really decide what it wants to be and so fails.

The actors are pretty good in their roles. William Hurt is excellent as John Robinson when he's given the chance to look intelligent and act thoughtful. Actor and character are also kind of funny when they clash with Matt LeBlanc. But there are cringe-worthy moments when John Robinson is angsty about wanting to kill or ignorant of his children's plight.

Mimi Rogers as Maureen Robinson is a little weak. The focus of the movie is away from Maureen most of the time and its a real bummer.

Heather Graham is nice as Judy Robinson. She has good chemistry with Matt LeBlanc.

Lacey Chabert as has some nice moments as Penny Robinson. Its a shame she didn't have more to do.

Jack Johnson as Will Robinson does a fine job as well. He's a bit young for the role, but it works. He's a believable kid genius.

Gary Oldman as Dr. Smith is well ... Gary Oldman. :D

Matt LeBlanc as Don West is my favorite performance and my favorite character in the movie. He's not quite your typical military pilot-type. He's funny in the all the right places and Matt relates well to his fellow actors and actresses in his performance.

The special effects of "Lost in Space" are not what I'd call the best. Those fighters from the beginning of the movie are kind of dumb. The space shots, not really much wow-factor there. Those energy guns they carry around, kind of cheap. But, I do think the movie's Jupiter 2 is a beautiful ship inside and out and I'd pick it as my mode of transport in any galaxy.

The story ... maybe if there had been sequels, they would have added some urgency to the plot as time goes on. But as far as this "Lost in Space," you really forget that the survival of the human race hinges on the success or failure of the Space Family Robinson. The plot plods through the episodes that make up the movie. It doesn't really flow well at all. And as I said before, the movie can't decide what it wants to be. Is it supposed to be light and funny? Is it supposed to be serious science fiction? Is it a movie about family?

"Lost in Space" could have worked. It works well here and there. Its disappointing that its not a consistent movie. By the end of the movie, I cared about the characters. But not enough to endure another misadventure.
